My wife has three stillbirths in 2018, 2019, 2020. This album has stood the test of time, and even 12 years later, it helped get me through very difficult times.

A crowning achievement within a crowning achievement, Requiem - Mezzo Forte is possibly the most lauded of Virgin Black's releases. Mezzo Forte leans into bombast but without the saccharine performance styling and over-processed sound production often present with recordings that marry heavy music with orchestration. The rawness of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra's live performance of the score, along with the natural tones that grace the band's instrumentation, allow a sense of the tragedy of the human condition to pervade. As the centrepiece of Virgin Black's sprawling requiem mass, it was a triumph when released in 2007 and remains a triumph to this day.

PSA: if there was an album you heard a couple years ago and thought it was ok, listen to it again and you might love it. That's what happened to me with this album. I cannot fathom why it didn't stick with me back then. Same thing happened with Decoherence's Unitarity for that matter. Matten

For me this is Mesathim’s best work to date. Excellent atmosphere and incorporation of synth elements to give a celestial feeling. The general composition and performance seem matured from previous releases. Absolutely excellent. 8/10 RJ
